Standard positions in soccer

Initial kickoff. There are three occasions when the ball is kicked in soccer: at the start of the game, at the start of the second half and after a goal has been scored. All players on the kick-off team must be in their own half of the pitch and their opponents must be at least nine meters away from the ball. The player taking the kick-off must not touch the ball again before the other players have done so.

The goalkeeper kicks and puts the ball into play. A player of the attacking team is at fault for throwing the ball in after it has gone over the goal line (from the side of the goal post or over the crossbar).

Throwing in the ball from behind the touchline. Throw-in is taken by a field player after the ball has crossed the touchline and left the field. The throw-in is taken where the ball is in “touch. The player throwing in must be facing the field on or behind the touchline. At the moment of the throw, both feet of the player must touch the ground. The ball is kicked into play without the referee’s signal.

Corner kick. The ball is kicked into play from a corner. This is a penalty for players of the defending team who kick the ball over the goal line.

Penalty kick and free kick. A penalty for intentionally touching the ball with the hand or using foul language against players of the opposing team.
