Kano Pillars FC recorded their first away victory on Monday against Ifeanyi Ubah in the Match Day 9 of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League season, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Auwalu Ali Malam sumptuous free-kick in the 23rd minute of the encounter handed the Sai Masu Gida their first away victory in the league since December 2019 against Dakkada.
The striker had endured a torrid time in front of goal this season since the 2019/20 season when he finished with 11 goals plus a further 4 assists. His strike against the Anambra Warriors was his first for the current season and 15th in his entire NPFL career.
In a chat with www.kano-pillars.com shortly after the game, technical adviser of the four-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Mr. Emmanuel Lionel Soccoia has heaped praises on the performance of his boys and said he was happy for finally achieving his target of recording a perfect victory on the road.
The French tactician commended his players for playing according to instructions and has charged them to use the victory as a stepping stone for achieving their sets objectives at the end of the season.
“You know, we are here for a purpose and we were able to achieve it despite that the condition of the pitch is poor but thank God, my players managed the condition and played very well for the 3 points”, Mr. Lionel concluded.
On his part, captain of the side and club legend, Rabiu Ali aka Pele, has thanked the government, good people of the state and the entire fans of the club for believing in them and assured they would not disappoint. He thanked Almighty Allah for rewarding their hard work and pledged to continue by going one game at a time.
In the same vain, spokesman of the club, Alhaji Rilwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, said the chairman of the Aiteo cup holders, Alhaji Surajo Shuaibu Jambul has fulfilled his pledged by settling the players and technical crew all their five match outstanding bonuses before the kickoff against Ifeanyi Ubah.
The seasoned journalist confirmed that the Pride of Kano are expected to leave Rivers for Kano Tuesday morning to prepare more ahead of the round of 10 matches against MFM FC of Lagos at the Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna.
The win has leafrog the Sai Masu Gida to 4th on the 20-team Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, log with 17 points from 9 matches, 4 points adrift of leaders, Enyimba.
