Resurgent Kano Pillars FC returned to winning ways in style after beating homers, Akwa Starlets by two goals to one in their rescheduled Match Day Two fixture of the ongoing 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League season on Wednesday.
The Sai Masu Gida took the lead through Nwagua Nyima in the 27th minute of the encounter. Nyima received the ball from Achibi Eweake and makes no mistakes to slot home the opener.
Nyima’s 27th minute strike was Pillars first goal of the season and it also ensures that the Sai Masu Gida have ended a run of 493 minutes in the NPFL without finding the back of the net.
The first half ended with Pillars leading the home side by a goal to nil.
The second half produces the best magical moments of the match when Moses Effiong restored parity for the home side after receiving a loose ball from Pillars goalkeeper, Suraj Ayeleso in the 75th minute.
However, Akwa Starlets celebration was short-lived when Nyima again restored the visitors lead, and his 2nd for the evening after receiving a Hollywood pass from captain, Rabiu Ali aka Pele in the 78th minute.
After the game, technical adviser of the national champions, Ibrahim A Musa has commended his players and thanked the fans for their prayers and support.
He described the officiating, led by Olayinka Olajide from Lagos as top notch and urged others to emulate from him.
On his part, Pillars goalscorer for the evening, Nwagua Nyima has dedicated the two goals he scored to his team mates and the entire fans of the club.
The game ended with Pillars recording their first maximum points of the season and have now moved up to 15th on the log.
The Pride of Kano will welcome Delta force on Sunday 8th December, 2019 at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kofar Mata. Whereas, Akwa Starlets will face Abia Warriors away from home.
